SALT LAKE CITY – Tony Finau dropped his wife’s phone in the swimming pool while dancing at his daughter’s birthday party ahead of the highly anticipated FedEx Cup Playoffs.

Trouble Averted For Finau

Video emerged from Finau’s wife’s Instagram, Alayna, where he is seen dancing to music on the edge of the pool before accidentally dropping a phone in the water. He continues to dance, despite the phone being in the pool, looks down, realizes that it is not his phone and quickly pulls it out of the water and runs to dry the phone.

In a recent interview leading up to this week’s opening FedEx Cup playoff event, the FedEx St. Jude Championship, Finau shared details of what unfolded at his daughter’s birthday party in his home state of Utah.

“So I started to Dougie and I decided to flip my wife’s phone up in the air, I actually thought it was my phone, so when it landed in the pool I was actually still douging and I looked in and I’m like wait a sec that isn’t even my phone that is my wife’s, I better get it out of the pool,” Finau said with a grin on his face.

Fortunately, the phone survived despite being underwater for a few seconds. Much to his relief, he did not have to worry about his wife being upset with him. Finau credited the “nice case on it (the phone), which ended up being the “saving grace.”

Finau has been seen dancing a lot recently, following his victory in Detroit at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, Finau flew home and was surprised by family and friends on the Provo Airport tarmac late in the evening. Finau proceeded to dance long into the night on the Provo tarmac surrounded by his loved ones.

Tony Finau Shifts Attention To FedEx Cup Playoffs

Nevertheless, Finau can now turn his attention to the highly anticipated FedEx Cup playoffs. Finau enters the FedEx Cup Playoffs as one of the favorites due to his consecutive victories at the 3M Open and Rocket Mortgage Classic recently.

Finau currently sits seventh in the FedEx Cup standings, his highest ranking entering the playoffs to date.

This week’s field consists of the top 125 players in the rankings, the following week at the BMW Championship the field shrinks to the top 70, and the finale will consist of the top 30 at the Tour Championship.

Assuming Finau can successfully advance to the Tour Championship, he will be contending for a first-place prize of $18 million dollars. Remarkably, throughout the entirety of the FedEx Cup Playoffs, the PGA Tour will hand out a whopping $75 million in prize money over a three-week period.

The $18 million first place prize at the Tour Championship marks the largest winning purse on the PGA Tour schedule.

FedEx St. Jude Championship Pairings

Finau will play the opening two rounds of the FedEx St. Jude Championship alongside Justin Thomas and Cameron Young.

Tee times will be announced at a later date.
