Leki Fotu Competes In 40-Yard Dash, Bench Press At NFL Combine

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Former Utah defensive tackle Leki Fotu was among 9 Utes to participate in the NFL Scouting Combine and he competed in two of the five possible drills.

While the big defensive tackle was in Indianapolis, he also caught up with the media and talked to NFL teams.
The NFL hands out prospect grades to each participant in the Combine that is based off of everything they do. The grading scale is from 5.0 to 8.0. An 8.0 grade is considered a perfect prospect. Fotu was given a 6.19 grade which is considered “good backup who could become a starter.”
At the Combine, Fotu had his height, weight, arms and hands measured.

40-Yard Dash
Fotu entered the Combine as the heaviest defensive lineman in the position group at the Combine. In the 40-yard dash, Fotu ran a 5.15 time. Despite the weight difference, Fotu still posted an impressive time and was faster than Auburn’s Derrick Brown (5.16), Darrion Daniels of Nebraska (5.18), Josiah Coatney of Ole Miss (5.21) and Mississippi’s Benito Jones (5.26).
North Carolina State DL James Smith-Williams had the fastest 40-yard dash time of 4.60.

Bench Press
Fotu put up 21 reps of 225 lbs. on the bench press. That result was tied for 10th most at the Combine. His fellow defensive linemen at Utah, John Penisini and Bradlee Anae posted more reps at 23 and 25 respectively.
Ohio State DL DaVon Hamilton had the most reps at 33.
Fotu did not compete in the vertical jump, broad jump, three-cone drill or the 20-yard shuttle.
