Clippers Pull Away In Fourth To Sink Jazz

LOS ANGELES, California – A young lineup kept matters close most of the night, but the Utah Jazz couldn’t overcome the Clippers’ fourth-quarter dominance in a 130-110 loss.

The Jazz (12-39) dropped the middle of a three-game road trip in Inglewood, where they will take on the Clippers (29-23) at Intuit Dome. Los Angeles is seventh in the West, half a game behind Minnesota, for the final guaranteed playoff spot. Tip-off is at 8:30 p.m. MT.

The Clippers won the first two matchups this season by a combined 48 points.

The Clippers have lost three straight after winning four of five to close January. Utah is coming off a heart-breaking overtime loss to the Phoenix Suns last night.

Will the Utah Jazz regret not trading veterans?

Danny Ainge and Justin Zanik were burning up the phone lines ahead of this year’s trade deadline. Utah ultimately made five trades, including having a hand in two of the best 2025 deadline deals.

The question worth asking now is, did Ainge and Company do enough to facilitate their goal of improving the team’s odds for the 2025 NBA Draft?

The Jazz will enter the second half of the season with John Collins, Jordan Clarkson, and Collin Sexton still on the roster despite weeks of rumors surrounding the three veterans.

With a league-wide scarcity of first-round picks on the move, very few mid-to-high-level salaries were exchanged this year outside of the blockbusters that saw Luka Doncic, Anthony Davis, Zach LaVine, De’Aaron Fox, and Jimmy Butler change teams.

Clarkson and Sexton are under contract with the Jazz next season, while Collins has a player option for 2025-26.

Was It A Successful Deadline?

Though the Jazz’s 2025 trade deadline may have lacked fireworks, it was a successful transition period for the front office.

Over the last week, the Jazz acquired five second-round picks and the ability to audition 24-year-old KJ Martin for the remainder of the season in exchange for reserve center Drew Eubanks and little-used Patty Mills.

While the transactions may not reveal the roadmap for completing the team’s current rebuild, the assets they acquired will help the Jazz formulate their roster for future seasons.
