Jazz Have Interest In Free Agent PG D’Angelo Russell

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – According to Shams Charania of Stadium, the Utah Jazz are among five NBA teams that are interested in Brooklyn Nets point guard D’Angelo Russell in free agency.

Along with the Jazz, the Nets, Orlando Magic, Minnesota Timberwolves and Indiana Pacers are all reported to have interest in the four-year point guard.

Russell is a finalist for the NBA Most Improved Player award after increasing his scoring average from 15.5 points last season to 21.1 points per game this season. He also upped his assists average from 5.2 to 7.

The Ohio State product was the second overall pick in the in the 2015 NBA Draft to the Los Angeles Lakers, but was traded to Brooklyn after two seasons.

Russell and Utah Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell share the same agent. On May 21, Mitchell posted a photo on his Instagram story with his bobblehead next to Russell’s.

Earlier this week, Jazz point guard Ricky Rubio told a radio station in Spain that he wasn’t the No. 1 priority for the Jazz.

Russell will be a restricted free agent this off-season, which means the Nets can match any offer that is made to Russell. Other reports have indicated the Boston Celtics star Kyrie Irving is interested in possibly playing for the Nets, if that is the case, the franchise will likely let Russell walk.

Teams are allowed to start talking to free agents on June 30 at 4 p.m. mountain time.
