Jazz Starters Lead Second-Half Comeback To Beat Hornets

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Utah Jazz starters led an impressive comeback in the second half to defeat the Charlotte Hornets for the team’s fifth consecutive victory.

The Jazz beat the Hornets 114-107 at the Spectrum Center on Saturday, December 21.

Utah trailed Charlotte 64-56 at halftime before winning the third and fourth quarters by a combined 15 points. Each member of Jazz’s starting lineup scored in double figures in the win.

In the first half, the Jazz were led by Rudy Gobert who recorded a double-double before the opening quarter had ended. He posted 17 points, 19 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, and 3 blocks in 37 minutes on the court. Gobert finished the game with a team-high +16 +/- rating.

In the second half, the other four members of Utah’s starting unit kicked into gear to mount the comeback. Utah closed the game on a 15-10 run after head coach Quin Snyder was ejected by the officiating crew for arguing a no-call.

The Jazz were led in scoring by Bojan Bogdanovic’s 26 points and Donovan Mitchell’s 20 points.

Utah forwards Joe Ingles and Royce O’Neale added 14 points and 11 points respectively.

Emmanuel Mudiay led Utah’s bench with 12 points in 22 minutes of play. He was 5-9 on field goals including a pair of back-to-back triples in the first half.

Georges Niang added 9 points on 3-3 shooting in 12 minutes off of the pine.

They were the only members of the Jazz’s second unit to have a positive +/- rating against the Hornets.

Utah finished the game shooting 52 percent from the field and 50 percent from behind the arc.

The Jazz shared the basketball had used 27 assists to overcome 21 turnovers that led to 24 points by the Hornets.

With the fifth win in a row, Utah improved to 18-11 on the season and 7-8 away from Vivint Smart Home Arena.

The Jazz close a three-game Eastern Conference road trip with their last game before Christmas against the Miami Heat (21-8). Utah plays against Miami on Monday, December 23 at 5:30 p.m. (MDT).
