Young Core Shows Out As Utah Jazz Take Big Lead Over Clippers

SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Jazz were firing on all cylinders in the first half against the LA Clippers and the team’s young players were a big reason for that.

Utah opened the game shooting 18/25 from the field and 12/17 from three. The biggest lead of the half was 20.

Five of Utah’s young players were major factors in the lights-out performance.

Kyle Filipowski, Isaiah Collier, Brice Sensabaugh, Keyonte George, and Johnny Juzang combined to shoot 11/14 from the floor and 8/9 from downtown.

Really the only saving grace for the Clippers was turnovers. The Jazz got a bit too ambitious at times which resulted in 11 turnovers to just two from LA.

However, even with the sloppiness, Utah was in full control of the game which leaves one to imagine what the first half would look like with better ball control.

The vets were far from forgotten early on. John Collins led the way in the first half with 12. Lauri Markkanen and Svi Mykhailiuk also contributed to the Jazz’s red-hot shooting.

Jazz Host Clippers Before Embarking On All-Star Break

The Utah Jazz are almost able to enjoy eight days off but first, they host the Los Angeles Clippers at Delta Center on Thursday.

Utah has stumbled into three wins in the first two weeks of February. It started with taking advantage of a Magic team that couldn’t throw a rock into the ocean. Next, a borderline-miracle fourth-quarter comeback against Golden State resulted in a three-point win. And then most recently, Utah took care of business on their home floor against the Lakers after dropping the previous game in Los Angeles.

The Clippers, currently the sixth seed in the West, come into Salt Lake on a two-game win streak. Already 3-0 against the Jazz on the season, Los Angeles looks to go into the break with a season series sweep and a winning streak ready to be continued on the other side.
