BYU Dominates Big 12 Awards After Dispatching TCU

PROVO, Utah – The BYU Cougars controlled all three phases of play over the weekend, earning a trio of Big 12 weekly awards after crushing the Horned Frogs 44-13.
True freshman QB Bear Bachmeier earned his first Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week award, while kicker Will Ferrin was named Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week. The Cougar defensive line was recognized as the conference’s Defensive Line of the Week as well.

Bachmeier completed 22-of-33 passes for 296 yards and two total touchdowns. The California natives tenth rushing touchdown of the season extended his freshman program record and equaled the program’s QB rushing TD record alongside Steve Young, Taysom Hill, and Zach Wilson.
He has thrown for 2,177 yards and 13 touchdowns against four interceptions. On the ground, Bachmeier has 479 yards and is averaging 4.2 yards per carry on more than 11 attempts per game.
Ferrin, a former Davis Dart prep star, hit three field goals and finished with 14 points, marking the fifth time in his career he has made three or more field goals in a game. Ferrin connected on a 52-yard field goal for BYU’s first points. It was his third 50-plus-yard FG of the season.

TCU’s offense had fits all night trying to find any sense of momentum against a dominant BYU front line.
The Cougars finished with three sacks, five tackles for a loss, and two QB hurries against a Horned Frogs starting five that had allowed only 12 sacks all season coming into the game.

183 passing yards for the Horned Frogs is the team’s lowest total since 2023.
BYU’s 25 sacks are tied with West Virginia for the fourth-most in the Big 12 this season.
