Peyton Higginson commits to BYU over Utah State and Michigan
Higginson picked BYU over finalists Michigan and Utah State, two programs with coaching staffs who have strong connections to the Beehive State.
The 6-foot-3, 185-pound Higginson is a two-way athlete with a 77-inch wingspan. Higginson plays safety and wide receiver, and he’s rated by 247Sports Composite as the 90th-overall athlete prospect in the country for the 2027 class.
During his varsity career, Higginson has totaled 107 tackles and five interceptions on defense. Then, on the offensive side, he’s totaled 1,235 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns in his prep career, while also adding 295 yards on punt returns.
The athleticism of Higginson was on display as he was part of Team Puka, named after former BYU star Puka Nacua, in the OT7 league this past spring, setting a single-game record for most pick-sixes by one player with two.

After BYU’s new defensive staff came together under first-year DC Kelly Poppinga, Higginson was a prospect whom Poppinga and safeties coach Demario Warren prioritized in the 2027 cycle. They made early in-home visits this past winter during the first contact period after being hired.
The addition of Higginson brings BYU’s 2027 recruiting class to 13 commits. He’s the fifth recruit since BYU’s loaded June 19 official visit weekend to commit to the Cougars, joining Jaxson Rex, Kamoni Adams, Kyle Nabrotzky, and Uhila Wolfgramm.
