BYU Basketball Makes Top Six Cut For JUCO Player Of The Year Recruit

PROVO, Utah – BYU basketball is pursuing the nation’s top junior college player. That would be John A. Logan point guard Sean East.
The 6-foot-3 East was tabbed as the top JUCO player earlier on Friday. Then after receiving that honor, East dropped his top six schools in a video that featured Lil Durk’s latest track, “What Happened to Virgil.” BYU was one of the six schools that made the cut.

The six remaining schools in the mix for East include Clemson, Missouri, Oregon, and South Florida. National blueblood program Kentucky is also in the mix. East grew up in Louisville, Kentucky.
BYU basketball is in Top 6 for Sean East
BYU hosted East for an official visit last week. The JUCO Player of the Year that averaged 20.9 points, 5.7 assists, and 4.3 rebounds per game, was on the trip to Provo with his father.
“Sean is an outstanding basketball player but an even better person,” said East’s JUCO head coach Kyle Smithpeters. “His work ethic is the best I have coached.”
The John A. College standout has two years of eligibility remaining in his collegiate career. If East signed with BYU, he would have the opportunity to be the next star guard for the Cougars replacing Alex Barcello. He’d also have the chance to be the face of the BYU program entering the Big 12 era in 2023.
East has two years of D1 College Basketball under his belt already. In 2020 he played a season at UMass, then during the 2021 COVID year, East was at Bradley before enrolling at John A. Logan College.
The regular signing period for college basketball begins on Wednesday, April 13, and runs through May 18, 2022.
