Kirk Herbstreit Names BYU RB Tyler Allgeier Top Performing Player

PROVO, Utah – Weeks after praising BYU head coach Kalani Sitake, ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit is giving props to another key person on the BYU football team.
Herbstreit dished out his weekly top performers for the past week in college football, and running back Tyler Allgeier made the cut.

Allgeier put together the best performance of his BYU career, rushing for 218 yards on 22 carries in a Wagon Wheel victory over in-state rival Utah State. The performance was a career-high for rushing yards and he found the end zone three times.
On the season, Allgeier has carried the football 102 times for 569 yards. That’s good for 5.6 yards per carry.
Allgeier arrived at BYU as a preferred walk-on running back before switching to linebacker in 2019. Last season, he made the permanent move to running back. From there he’s taken off as one of the nation’s running backs.
The contributions from Allgeier have been critical for BYU’s offense. Through five games, BYU has already played three quarterbacks due to injuries. Despite the wave of injuries to their signal-callers, Allgeier has been a stabilizing force on a team that is now in the top 1o of the major Top 25 polls.
Allgeier and BYU football are next in action this Saturday when they host Boise State. Kickoff for BYU vs. Boise State is set for 1:30 p.m. on ABC. The game can be heard on KSL NewsRadio, with coverage beginning at 9 a.m.
Herbstreit’s other top performers for week five of the college football season include Alabama’s Brian Robinson, Bijan Robinson from Texas, Ohio State QB C.J. Stroud, and Bo Nix from Auburn.
