Syracuse High’s Do-It-All Ty Burke Commits To BYU Football

PROVO, Utah – Syracuse High’s Ty Burke was one of the top players in Region 1 in Utah High School Football. A “do-it-all” type of athlete for the Titans, Burke announced that he would play for BYU after he graduates from high school.

Burke will serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints before he enrolls at BYU. When he returns in 2022 to play for the Cougars, Burke will compete for playing time at safety in BYU’s defense. BYU safeties coach Preston Hadley was one of the top recruiters in securing Burke’s commitment to the Cougars.
At Syracuse this past season, Burke had 787 receiving yards and 12 touchdown catches. On the defensive side, the Syracuse star had 44 tackles, three sacks, and two interceptions helping the Titans advance to the quarterfinals of the 6A Playoffs.
BYU was the only FBS program to offer Burke and part of that is due to the devastating injury he suffered as a junior. Burke suffered a leg injury that led to surgery for compartment syndrome. There was a possibility that his leg would have been amputated had surgery not taken place when it did.
After recovering from the scary injury, Burke’s play on the football field and the track caught the attention of BYU’s coaching staff. Along with football, Burke excels in track and field, particularly in the 100 meters. At the UHSAA State Track & Field Championships last May, Burke ran 11.12 in the 100 meters.
With Burke’s commitment, BYU now has 22 commits in the class of 2020. Burke is expected to sign his letter of intent this Wednesday during the early national signing period.
