Ezra Ausar Carries Utah Utes Offense In Provo Against BYU

PROVO, Utah – The regular season finale was filled with ups and downs for Utah but junior forward Ezra Ausar remained a consistent force for the Utes.

Through the first 30 minutes, Ausar was the only Runnin’ Ute to reach double figures.

Maybe more impressive than his scoring was his rebounding and hustle.

Ausar added nine rebounds to his 12 points, six of which were offensive. The second-chance points helped him shoot over 60 percent from the floor, by far the best mark of any Ute with more than six shot attempts.

All of this came after he had an injury scare early in the first half. BYU guard Trevin Knell fell and hit the outside of his knee which sent him to the locker room. Mintues later, he came back to the scorer’s table and checked in to the relief of Utah fans.

Utes Close Out Season With Rivalry Road Game Against BYU

To close out the Big 12 basketball regular season, longtime rivals BYU and Utah will face off for the second time this year.

The Cougars have won seven in a row and hold the fourth spot in the conference. The Utes have one win in their last four games and are down at 11th.

BYU’s season has been more or less consistent while Utah has been on a rollercoaster of highs and lows. Ironically, the Utes’ peak was back in mid-January when they snuck out a one-point overtime win over BYU at home.

Since that game, Utah has gone 5-8 and slowly fell down the Big 12 standings. Meanwhile, BYU has gone 11-2 in that same period and looks stronger with every game that passes. If the Utes want to pull off another rivalry upset, it will be much tougher the second time around.
