Utah State Lands Forward Garry Clark In Transfer Portal

LOGAN, Utah- The Utah State Aggies have finally landed their first transfer of the current cycle, which ends on April 22, adding 6’8 forward Garry Clark to the roster, who will play his final year in Logan.
Clark is transferring from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi out of the Southland Conference, where he spent two seasons after initially transferring from Tarleton State.

Clark began his career at Tarleton State before spending the last two seasons at Corpus Christi. He was named First Team All-Southland Conference this season.

Garry Clark At Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
Garry Clark started in 31 games for the Islanders last season, averaging 14.9 points and 7.7 rebounds per game as the team’s leading scorer and rebounder. Using his strength around the basket, Clark racked up eight double-doubles with points and rebounds throughout the season.
Garry’s season high this past year was 22 points, which he posted twice.
The first was in a close 74-73 loss to McNeese State, who would go on to win the Southland Conference tournament, then beating Clemson as a No. 12 seed in the NCAA Tournament. In that game, shot 9-16 and pulled down 14 boards.
The second was in the Southland Conference Tournament First Round where the Islanders defeated Houston Christian. Clark put another double-double on the board with 22 points and 11 rebounds.
For his dominant play in 2024-25, Garry Clark was named to the All-Southland Conference First Team.
His field goal percentage has improved in each of his three years of Division I basketball, but the offensive stat that took the biggest jump last season for Clark was his three-point percentage which climbed from 26.3% to 33.3% on similar volume, which is by no means elite, but still provides a threat from outside.
Garry Clark’s Play Style
Garry Clark is going to provide quick and physical play down low for the Aggies, and will hopefully bolster a Utah State team that was a bottom-half rebounding team in the conference.
Clark does the majority of his work among the trees with 58% of his field goal attempts coming at the basket, where he shoots an astounding 65%. Clark’s length gives him a large radius and the ability to grab entry passes up high. He is also crafty in the paint, either getting around his defender in different ways to get an open look at the rim or simply finishing over them.
Garry also does a great job of moving without the ball, cutting toward the basket and receiving passes for a good chunk of his scoring. This also gives him a good feel to get out and run on transition.
This pairs nicely with a fast-paced Jerrod Calhoun offense that likes to get out and run and also encourages players to shoot at high rates, giving a guy like Garry Clark the chance to eat on the offensive boards where he could get a large number of put-back opportunities.
Transfer Portal Tracker For The Utah State Aggies
Since the end of the season, only four players have entered the transfer portal for Utah State, with notable confirmed returners Mason Falslev and Karson Templin choosing to forgo outside opportunities and stay in Logan. With just four departing transfers so far and eight days remaining in the current portal window, the only Mountain West teams with fewer exits are San Diego State and Nevada.
