FRESNO, California- The Utah State Aggies rebounded from losing to the New Mexico Lobos last Saturday with a hard-fought victory over the Wyoming Cowboys on Tuesday. It was a little close for comfort down the stretch, but the Aggies came out on top 71-67 thanks to 19 points from Ian Martinez and 11 points from Drake Allen.

Utah State (20-3, 10-2) went from avoiding consecutive losses to now seeking to build another winning streak. They can stack their second successive win when they face the Fresno State Bulldogs (5-18, 1-11) on Friday, February 7.

This game will be streamed on the Mountain West Network.

Aggies fans will remember Utah State’s visit to the Save Mart Center in 2024.

The 22nd-ranked Aggies met a Bulldogs squad five games below .500 and was on a three-game losing streak. However, it can be a wild ride on any given night in the Mountain West, as last February, Fresno State led USU by three with less than 10 seconds on the clock.

However, a hero appeared for Utah State in the form of Darius Brown II, who pulled up from around 40 feet and banked in a shot just before time expired to send the game to overtime.

The Aggies held on for the 77-73 win. Three weeks later, the Aggies ended Fresno State’s season with an 87-75 overtime victory in the Mountain West Championships.

Ian Martinez added 16 points, while Mason Falslev found the range for 14 points. Dexter Akanno rounded out the group with 13 points and one posterizing slam. Fresno State forward Bulldogs forward Alex Crawford led all scorers with 26 points.

Utah State vs. Fresno State

Tonight’s game is the 74th meeting between these programs. Utah State holds a commanding 47-26 edge. The Bulldogs are 18-14 at home. USU has controlled the series in recent years, winning 12 of the past 13 games.

The Aggies are second in the MW, scoring 81 points per game. Fresno State is sixth, scoring 72.6. The Bulldogs have the worst defense statistically in the conference, giving up 82.2 points a night and allowing opponents to approach 50 percent shooting from the field.

Utah State’s passing has been incredible all season. The Aggies are seventh in the country with 18.3 assists per game and 10th nationally with an assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.65. Mason Falslev (3.7), Drake Allen (3.7), and Ian Martinez (3.0) average three or more helpers each night. The Bulldogs have dished out 259 assists while committing 299 turnovers. This gives them the worst assist-to-turnover ratio in the league.

The Aggies’ bench has outscored its opponent in 19 of 23 games. USU’s bench averages 30 points a night, the 23rd best in the nation.
