Dixie State Suffers Blowout Loss To No. 1 Gonzaga In Season Opener

SALT LAKE CITY – Dixie State Trailblazers faced a very challenging opponent in their season opener, falling to No. 1 Gonzaga 97-63 in the Kennel.
Two Dixie State players scored in double figures led by Cameron Gooden with 15 points, three rebounds and five assists. Dancell Leter added 13 points.
Gonzaga head coach Mark Few was not on the sidelines for this game as he is serving a suspension for a DUI from the off-season.
The game was somewhat close in the first half with Dixie State getting outscored 40-25 but the game got out of hand in the second half when the Bulldogs dropped 57 points and allowed just 38 points to DSU.

Five Gonzaga players reached double figures, led by Julian Strawther with 17 points and 10 rebounds. All-American Drew Timme had 11 points and 4 rebounds in just 20 minutes of action. Top recruit Chet Holmgren made his debut and posted 14 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists.
Dixie State shot 35% from the field, 36% from the three-point line and just 43% at the free throw line. Gonzaga made 54% of their shots, 28% from downtown and 70% at the charity stripe.
Dixie State dropped their record to 0-1 on the season. They will have their home opener on Friday, November 12 when they take on Southern Utah. Tipoff is at 7 p.m. MT.
