ST. GEORGE, Utah – Dixie State Athletics announced that the women’s basketball team will not play their remaining schedule of the 2020-21 season.

Dixie State released a statement on Tuesday evening regarding the women’s basketball team not playing again this season.

“While we are disappointed with this for our women’s basketball program and its coaches and student-athletes, it is 100% the right call,” said Athletic Director Jason Boothe. “We have kept the safety and well-being as the top priority for our student-athletes throughout the pandemic and given the issues this team is facing, this decision is right in line with that top priority.  Once we get through the pandemic and all the issues it causes for everyone involved, we look forward to having the team back in action next school year.”

The Trailblazers had five of their eight non-conference games canceled due to COVID-19 and played three games to this point. They finish the 2020-21 with a 1-2 record, knocking off Park University 81-52 on December 12. Their losses came against Portland State and Southern Utah. Dixie State had games versus Life Pacific, BYU, Saint Katherine, Ottawa (AZ) and Simpson.

In the win over Park University, London Pavlica had 24 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists on 10-of-15 shooting from the field. Brooke Vance added 12 points off the bench and Maggie McCord had 10.

When the Trailblazers lost to Portland State, they were led by Keslee Stevenson and Emily Isaacson with 10 points apiece. In the loss to Southern Utah, Breaunna Gillen led the way with 9 points.

Dixie State was scheduled to begin their first WAC schedule as a Division I program against New Mexico State before shutting the season down. Now the team will look forward to the 2021-22 season.
