SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Tech men’s basketball team hung tight with the Washington Huskies before falling on the road in Seattle.

The Huskies hosted the Blazers at Alaska Airlines Arena on Monday, November 14.

Utah Tech fell to UW, 78-67.

The game was a tale of two halves for the Trailblazers. Utah Tech and Washington battle with one another throughout much of the closely contested game. Late in the first half, the Blazers had built up a nine-point lead, their largest of the night. Utah Tech looked to play the part of an underdog upsetter and took a two-point advantage into the halftime break in the Emerald City.

During the first portion of the second half, the Trailblazers and Huskies continued to go back and forth. With 8:56 to go, Washington’s Jamal Bey connected on a three-pointer to put the Huskies up by one point, 59-58, and the Blazers would never lead again. Washington built its lead up to double-digits before the final horn sounded.

Utah Tech finished the game shooting 40.6 percent overall and 29.2 percent from beyond the arc. Washington shot 55.1 percent from the field and 60.0 percent on triples. One of Utah Tech’s biggest advantages during the contest came on the glass, where the Blazers had 13 more rebounds than the Huskies. The Trailblazers also had an aggressive defense that resulted in six steals on the night. Washington used its size to record eight blocked shots and Utah Tech was only able to produce one rejection.

Tanner Christensen led the Trailblazers with 26 points, four rebounds, three assists, one steal, and a block. Isaiah Pope added 13 points off the bench for Utah Tech.

Keyon Menifield led the Huskies with 26 points.

With the loss, the Blazers fell to a 1-2 record on the season. Utah Tech’s next game is on the road against No. 14 Arizona on Thursday, November 17 at 7 p.m. (MDT). The game will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Network.
