Report: ‘Everything Pushing Towards Cam Rising Playing’ In Utah Vs. Oklahoma State

SALT LAKE CITY – Utah Football will be traveling to Oklahoma later today and will do so with the expectation that star quarterback Cam Rising will play tomorrow.
Rising missed Utah’s Week 3 matchup against Utah State last weekend as a result of a finger injury against Baylor the week before.
On Wednesday college football insider Pete Thamel gave a positive update on Utah’s veteran quarterback ahead of a high-stakes matchup versus Oklahoma State this weekend
“Well we did see him in practice yesterday, Victoria, and he is cleared and expected to play,” Thamel said to Victoria Arlen on ESPN’s CollegeFootball Live. “I think it’s notable, he was not cleared to play in Saturday’s game and did not practice last week. So everything is pushing towards Cam Rising playing in Stillwater on Saturday.”
Thamel’s report indicates that Rising practiced on Tuesday. That is the most important practice day for Utah and most college football programs. Additional context here is that Rising took the majority, if not all the practice reps that day.
Cam Rising’s injury will still be a situation to monitor on Saturday
Obviously, the vote of confidence around Rising’s expected availability is encouraging. However, this situation will be monitored up to and throughout the game. Given that it’s his throwing hand, Rising’s injury cannot be the easiest to manage.
“He had a dislocated finger on his throwing hand, and my understanding, there were stitches near that finger,” Thamel said on College Football Live. “Those injuries are obviously healing, so will he or won’t he have a glove on his throwing hand in Stillwater is one of the big questions we’ll be watching in pregame warmups.”
True freshman Isaac Wilson looked solid in his first career start last weekend. The additional prep he received made all the difference for him in that game compared to his previous two appearances.
It seems in an effort to cover their bases, Wilson not only received his standard share of practice reps but some additional work on Thursday, according to a source. There are no indications that Rising won’t go but if he can’t, Wilson will have had some additional prep.
