SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Former Utah defensive back and current Los Angeles Rams safety Eric Weddle was on the University of Utah campus and told the media that he hopes that Utah can win the Pac-12 Championship and go to the Rose Bowl.

Weddle spoke to the entire football team at their banquet on Wednesday night and was there to help the seniors on Thursday as they did workouts in front of NFL scouts at their pro day.

“We (Utah) have been progressing every season, finally won the Pac-12 south division,” Weddle said. “We didn’t play our best in the Pac-12 Championship, but at least we got a taste of it. With the returners coming back and with (Andy) Ludwig coming in, which was a huge hire, a lot of things have to go your way. They have to stay healthy, we’ll see how bad they want it,” he added.

Loves Being In Utah

Weddle signed with the Los Angeles Rams on March 8, after spending the previous three seasons with the Baltimore Ravens. He will return to his home state, where he also spent the first nine seasons of his 12-year career with the San Diego Chargers.

With the move back to California, Weddle is excited to be around the Utah football program more and attend more games.

“I will be able to get to the USC game this year,” he said. “On our Thursday night game week and our bye week, I will make it out to games. I can’t wait to be around more, I just love this place,” Weddle added.

Helping Young Players

He is looking forward to the opportunity to help the players on the roster and give them advice as they progress through their college career.

“Seeing the young guys, they are the players that look to you (Weddle) as an old guy now,” Weddle added. “It’s fun to try to help them and share any kind of knowledge to help them become better players and better men.”
