Former BYU Kicker Skyler Southam Transfers To Utah

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Former BYU kicker Skyler Southam has entered the transfer portal and has decided to transfer to the University of Utah.

Southam just finished his sophomore season with the Cougars, where he replaced starting placekicker Jake Oldroyd on two separate occasions. He was handling kickoffs throughout the season for BYU.
This season, Southam made one of his three field goal attempts with all three tries coming against San Diego State in the regular season finale. His made field goal was from 24 yards, while his misses were both from 26 yards. He made all three of his extra point attempts last season.
Southam announced his decision to join the Utes on his Instagram page.
“I am grateful for the coaches, fans, and especially teammates that have supported me the past two years at BYU. After much consideration, I entered the NCAA transfer portal. I have now enrolled and began football at the University of Utah,” Southam said in his post. “I am excited for this new opportunity and feel it is the best decision for me and my family. Go Utes!”
As a freshman in 2018, Southam made 42 of his 44 extra point attempts. He made 11-of-16 field goals, going 4-4 from 20-29 yards, 3-3 from 30-39 yards, 4-7 from 40-49 yards and 0-2 from 50-plus yards. His longest field goal made in 2018 was 47 yards.
Southam will likely have to sit out the 2020 season due to the NCAA transfer rules. Utah recently awarded a scholarship to kicker Jadon Redding.
