Parker Van Dyke Lights Up Powder League, Sets New Record

SALT LAKE CITY- Parker Van Dyke is still proving to be a basketball hero three years removed from playing for the Utes and making UCLA’s life miserable. These days you can find Van Dyke lighting up the Powder League, a Pro-Am league in Salt Lake City. Specifically, Van Dyke just dropped 85 points on July 20th, setting a new league record in points scored.

Parker Van Dyke, Record Setter
Van Dyke grew up a Utah basketball fan that dreamed of making his own impact for the Utes someday.
It wasn’t that long ago that Van Dyke was known as a three-point drainer for the Utes, almost always coming up with a big shot when his team needed it. Most famously, PVD came up with a buzzer beater three-point shot in Pauley Pavilion back in 2019 topping off an amazing come-from-behind win for the Utes. The team would go on to finish the year 17-14 (11-7 in conference play) while finishing third in the Pac-12. Van Dyke finished his career at Utah with 8.5 points per game, 1.4 rebounds, 1.7 assists and shooting 43.1% from the field.

That 8.5 point per game average Van Dyke compiled in his senior season pales in comparison to his work the other night in the Powder League, though his buzzer beater still remains his best play ever. Van Dyke’s attempts to make it at the pro-level internationally have largely been thwarted due to the Corona Virus Pandemic, but he’s made the most showcasing his talents in the Powder League the last two seasons. His greatest feat certainly came Wednesday night when he set the league on fire making it rain points just like he used to in college.

Beating an 85-point game will be a tough feat for Van Dyke going forward, but if anyone is capable of making it happen, it would have to be him.
