Utah lands third commitment of the day in Aiden Martin

SALT LAKE CITY — Utah football’s official visit weekend has turned into a run of commitments, as Aiden Martin became the third to pledge to Morgan Scalley’s program in the last 24 hours.
After landing three-star offensive lineman Damian Anyasodo on Sunday night and tight end Braxton Daniel on Monday morning, the Utes added a promising linebacker in Martin.
That makes Martin the third commitment to come out of Utah’s second official visit weekend of the 2027 recruiting cycle, giving head coach Morgan Scalley and his staff another early win as they continue building the foundation of the class.

Utah also hosted OL Tye Kennedy, WR Dillon Sykes, WR Ake O’Neal, QB Brody Rudnicki, edge Jag Iaone, and edge commit Jack Henderson.
Official visit weekends are not only about getting prospects on campus. They are about converting interest into movement. The Utes have done that quickly, stacking three commitments in short order and turning their second major recruiting weekend of the cycle into tangible momentum.
Martin gives Utah a defensive commitment with positional flexibility, which is exactly the kind of trait that matters in the modern Big 12.
A productive weekend yields another commit
Utah needed its first official visit weekend to create momentum. It has done that.
Anyasodo gave the Utes another offensive line pledge. Daniel added a tight end to the class. Martin now gives Utah a versatile defensive piece who can fit into the larger identity Scalley and defensive coordinator Colton Swan want to maintain.
That balance matters. Utah’s early run has not been limited to one position group. The Utes have added pieces up front on offense, at tight end and now in the defensive back seven.
It also shows the staff is closing on players who fit the program’s long-term vision. Utah has never built its best teams strictly by chasing rankings. The Utes have usually been at their best when they identify traits, develop players and build around competitive fits.
Why Martin Fits Utah’s Defensive Identity
Martin is listed as a safety but committed to Utah as a linebacker, and that hybrid designation is important.
College defenses are asking more from those body types than ever. Programs need defenders who can run, tackle, cover space, handle run fits and adjust to different personnel looks. In the Big 12, where offenses can spread the field and stress matchups, that kind of versatility carries real value.
For Scalley, those kinds of players have always mattered. Utah’s defense has traditionally valued toughness and physicality, but it also requires communication, instincts and the ability to handle multiple responsibilities. The best versions of the Utes’ defense have featured players who can do more than one job.
From a scouting standpoint, Martin’s value starts with his versatility.
He has been listed as a safety, but his frame and athletic profile make his long-term projection especially interesting at linebacker. He has the type of body at 6-foot-3 and 190 pounds and the movement skills to play in space, the size potential to keep adding weight, and the defensive flexibility to grow into a role that asks him to do a little bit of everything.
He could begin as a hybrid safety-linebacker type, then grow into a more defined linebacker role as he adds strength and settles into the system. His athleticism gives him a chance to be useful on passing downs, while his frame suggests he can eventually handle more physical responsibilities in the run game.
That kind of projection matters in modern defensive football. Defenses need linebackers who can run, cover, blitz and tackle in space. Martin’s versatility gives Utah a player who can be molded into that type of piece over time.
Keeping the momentum going
The commitment also gives Utah another boost coming out of a key weekend.
Recruiting momentum can build quickly when players begin joining a class together. One commitment creates a spark. Two gets attention. Three out of the same official visit weekend begins to send a stronger message. Utah is gaining traction.
That is especially important in Scalley’s first full recruiting cycle as head coach. The Utes need to show that the program’s recruiting operation can still identify fits, sell the vision and close when prospects are on campus.
Anyasodo, Daniel and Martin give Utah three different types of commitments, but they all point back to the same larger theme: the staff is finding players who fit the identity of the program.
