Utah men’s basketball reveals 2026-27 Big 12 conference schedule

SALT LAKE CITY — The Big 12 unveiled its 2026-27 men’s basketball schedule Thursday, giving Utah’s revamped roster its conference itinerary for year two under head coach Alex Jensen.

For Jensen and a roster reshaped during the offseason, the opening stretch brings an early mix of home opportunities and road tests.  BYU, Colorado and Oklahoma State are Utah’s three home-and-away opponents. The Utes will face each of the other 12 conference opponents once.

 The 18-game conference schedule features nine home games and nine road games, with the regular-season finale set for March 6 at Colorado.

Kansas visit highlights opening stretch

After beginning conference play in Orlando, Utah will host Kansas and Cincinnati in consecutive games Jan. 6 and Jan. 9. That gives the Utes two early opportunities to establish themselves at home before consecutive road games at Oklahoma State on Jan. 12 and BYU on Jan. 16.

After that, Utah enters arguably the toughest stretch of the schedule from Jan. 26 through Feb. 16. That seven-game run is:

• at Arizona
• Baylor
• at Iowa State
• BYU
• Kansas State
• at Houston
• at TCU

What jumps out is the combination of quality and geography. Utah gets Arizona, Iowa State and Houston on the road, with the rivalry game against BYU and Kansas State sandwiched into the middle. Four of the seven are away from the Huntsman Center, and there really isn’t an obvious recovery game in there.

Even if Baylor or TCU ends up being more middle-of-the-pack than expected, that’s a stretch where Utah could play reasonably well and still take some losses. That’s the part of the schedule Utah has to find a way to survive. If Utah manages to win more than a couple during that stretch, that would be very interesting.

February brings rivalry rematch, consecutive Texas road games

After navigating the more difficult part of the schedule, February seems to be Utah’s most manageable part, particularly Feb. 20 through March 6:

• Colorado
• at Arizona State
• Oklahoma State
• Texas Tech
• at Colorado

Texas Tech is the obvious heavyweight in that run, but Utah gets three of the five at home and avoids the most intimidating road environments on the schedule. Drawing Colorado twice in 15 days also gives Utah some continuity in preparation, while Oklahoma State at home is the type of game a good Utah team should expect to capitalize on.

The interesting thing is that Utah’s schedule gives them a real opportunity to finish strong. If they can survive that late-January/early-February gauntlet without taking on too much damage, the final five games provide a chance to stack wins and improve their postseason position.

The Big 12 tournament follows March 9-13.
