Three-star TE Braxton Daniel commits to Utah

SALT LAKE CITY — Utah football’s official visit momentum continued Monday morning. After landing three-star offensive lineman Damian Anyasodo on Sunday night, the Utes added another offensive piece when 2027 tight end Braxton Daniel committed to Utah.

Daniel, a three-star prospect out of Jenks High School in Oklahoma, gives Utah another commitment coming out of its early official visit push and adds a tight end to the class at a position that remains important to the Utes’ offensive identity.

For head coach Morgan Scalley, tight ends coach Luke Wells and the offensive staff, Daniel’s commitment is another sign that Utah’s first major official visit stretch is producing results.

Braxton Daniel adds a tight end piece to the class

Daniel’s commitment gives Utah a tight end prospect with a productive junior season and an intriguing offensive profile. He committed to Utah over other programs like Oklahoma State, Arizona, SMU, and Duke among others.

At Jenks, Daniel showed the ability to create explosive plays in the passing game. As a junior, he caught 16 passes for 545 yards and six touchdowns, averaging more than 34 yards per reception.

Tight ends are often evaluated through more than raw receiving volume, especially at the high school level, but Daniel’s ability to stretch the field and generate explosive plays gives Utah something to work with. He is not just a body at the position. He has shown he can impact the passing game.

That makes his addition especially interesting for a Utah offense that has traditionally valued tight ends who can affect the game in multiple ways.

Scouting Report: Athletic, Multi-Sport Tight End

Daniels is an athletic tight end with movement skills that show up in the passing game. He can run, separate and create chunk plays, which is reflected in his high yards-per-catch production as a junior. That kind of receiving profile gives Utah a developmental tight end with upside as a field-stretching piece.

His multi-sport background also matters.

Daniel plays basketball, and that crossover often translates well to tight end. The position requires body control, timing, hand-eye coordination and the ability to win through contact. Basketball helps develop many of those traits, especially when it comes to tracking the ball, adjusting in space and making contested catches.

He will still need to continue adding strength and developing the full tight end skill set, especially as a blocker. But the baseline traits are clear: athletic movement, ball skills, receiving production and the kind of frame and coordination that can be molded over time.

That is where Utah’s development pitch becomes important. The Utes do not need Daniel to arrive as a finished product. They need him to keep growing into the position. His athletic profile gives Wells and the offensive staff something real to work with.

Luke Wells adds another official visit win for Utah

The Utes needed to show recruits what the program looks like under new leadership. They needed to sell continuity, but also show how the operation is evolving. Most importantly, they needed to turn strong visits into actual movement on the recruiting board.

That is starting to happen.

Last week, Sire Stewart gave Utah an offensive line commitment. Fellow offensive lineman Damian Anyasodo followed Sunday night. And Daniel then committed Monday morning, giving Utah another offensive pledge and another example of the Utes converting an official visit into momentum.

That matters for a program trying to build its first full class under Scalley. Recruiting momentum can shift quickly in June. Official visits stack. Decisions follow. Classes begin to take shape. Utah is now starting to see that process work in its favor.

For Wells, Daniel’s commitment is an important early recruiting win. Position coaches have to build relationships, identify fits and close when prospects get on campus. Daniel’s decision gives Wells a tight end commitment in the class and gives Utah another offensive player to build around as the 2027 group continues to take shape.

The more Utah can convert visits into commitments, the easier it becomes to sell the broader vision to other prospects. A class starts to feel real when players begin joining it in clusters. Stewart, Anyasodo and Daniel give Utah that early offensive momentum.

Braxton Daniel’s commitment gives Utah another win coming out of official visit season and adds an athletic tight end to the Utes’ 2027 class.

After Anyasodo committed Sunday night, Daniel’s Monday morning decision continued a strong offensive run for Utah’s staff.

For Scalley, it is another sign that the new era is starting to gain recruiting traction. For Wells, it is an early tight end addition with size, production and developmental upside.

Utah’s first official visit stretch needed to create momentum. With Daniel now in the class, the Utes are starting to stack it.
