SALT LAKE CITY — The Utes have landed a commitment from three-star offensive lineman Damian Anyasodo, giving Utah its second commitment of official visit season and its second offensive line pledge for position coach Jordan Gross.

Utah football’s second official visit weekend produced quick results and more offensive line momentum.

The program entered this recruiting cycle needing to build momentum under head coach Morgan Scalley and general manager Joe D’Orazio, but the early shape of the class is becoming clear. The Utes are prioritizing the trenches, and Gross is quickly putting his fingerprints on the 2027 class.

Anyasodo joins Sire Stewart as the second offensive line commitment to come off Utah’s official visit push. Those two have joined edge Jack Henderson, defensive lineman Tiki Teeples, and running back Jonah Mailei.

For a program that has long built its identity around line-of-scrimmage play, this is exactly where the class needed to start.

Utah building from the inside out

The commitment reinforces one of the clearest themes of Utah’s first official visit weekend: the offensive line is a priority.

That should not surprise anyone who has followed Utah football. The Utes have spent years building their program around toughness, physicality and development in the trenches. That identity carried Utah from the Mountain West into the Pac-12 and now into the Big 12.

The staff may be new in structure, but the philosophy is not changing. Scalley has made clear that Utah’s identity will still be rooted in physical football. They are trying to build a class with structural value. Offensive line commitments are the foundation of that kind of class.

Anyasodo gives Utah another player to develop in a room that now has Gross leading the way. His playing career at Utah, NFL experience and understanding of the position give the Utes a unique pitch in offensive line recruiting.

Two early wins for Jordan Gross

For Gross, landing Stewart and Anyasodo early in the cycle is important. This is his first full recruiting cycle as Utah’s offensive line coach, and official visits are where position coaches have to close.  Evaluations and relationships matter, but the real proof comes when prospects get on campus and decide they want to be part of the program. So far, Gross has converted.

Stewart gave Utah its first offensive line commitment of the official visit window. Anyasodo now gives the Utes another one. Together, they give Utah an early base to build around up front.

The league puts pressure on offensive lines in different ways. Teams have to handle space, tempo, movement and athletic defensive fronts, but they also have to be physical enough to win in short-yardage and protect quarterbacks over a long conference grind.

The Utes do not need every offensive line commit to arrive as a finished product. They need bodies with traits, frames and competitive makeup that can be developed over time. Anyasodo fits into that broader approach.

Utah still has a couple of top targets on the board as well, including Tye Kennedy who visited alongside Anyasodo this weekend. Lincoln Mageo and Ian Aloisio are other top linemen the Utes are pushing for.

Damian Anyasodo’s scouting report

Anyasodo gives Utah an intriguing developmental offensive line piece because of how well he moves.

He is an athletic lineman who plays light on his feet, which shows up in his ability to redirect, climb and stay connected through blocks. That movement skill gives him a foundation Utah can work with, especially as he continues adding strength and mass at the next level.

The effort also stands out. Anyasodo plays with a motor that fits what Utah wants up front. He is not just looking to get in the way; he works to finish blocks, stay engaged and compete through the whistle. For a program that values physical development and toughness along the offensive line, those traits give offensive line coach Jordan Gross a strong starting point.

The next step will be adding power and refining technique, but the baseline tools are clear: athletic feet, effort, movement ability and a frame Utah believes it can develop.

The Bottom Line

Damian Anyasodo’s commitment gives Utah its second pledge of official visit season and its second offensive line commitment under Jordan Gross, that is real early momentum.

For Gross, it is another recruiting win in his first full cycle leading Utah’s offensive line room. For Scalley, it reinforces the program’s continued commitment to winning up front.

Utah still has plenty of work to do in the 2027 class, but the early message is obvious. The Utes are building from the trenches first. Anyasodo’s commitment shows that plan is already starting to take shape.
