Four-Star Quarterback Thaddeus Thatcher Commits To Utah Football

SALT LAKE CITY – Kyle Whittingham and his Utah football program picked up a big commitment in four-star quarterback Thaddeus Thatcher.
Thatcher unofficially visited the program on Saturday and pledged to Whittingham and the rest of the staff.
This is the first commitment with Jason Beck as offensive coordinator and the first commit of the 2027 class.

Thaddeus Thatcher has committed to Utah football
Thatcher visited the program on Saturday for Utah’s first practice in Rice Eccles Stadium. This gave him a good first look at Beck’s new offense and coaching style.
“With the new staff, Beck’s offense just fits my style perfectly,” Thatcher explained. “The practice was awesome, the offense was moving the ball really well; I feel good about how I fit in the system; the staff is so great, and I just knew it was the place for me.”
Beck was officially hired in December and brought offensive analyst Koy Detmer along with him. In just three months’ time, both Detmer and Beck have made a big impression on Thatcher.
“My relationship is really good with both Beck and Detmer, even though they’ve only been there a couple of months,” Thatcher said. “They communicate with me like every day and just check-in. The energy they coach is unmatched; they hype the guys when they earn it and get on them when they need it, too; I was just super impressed with their coaching.”
With older brother Christian on the squad, the two have accomplished a goal they set out to achieve a long time ago.
“It was always sort of the goal for Christian and me to play together; we never tried to force it but always wanted it to work out that way,” Thatcher said of him and his brother playing together.
“We’re both super excited; Christian and I are close; we grew up playing together; it’s what we both wanted. It’s been hard with him up there even now, but we’re excited about the opportunity to play together.” – Thaddeus Thatcher
As a 2027 prospect, Thatcher has a while before he joins the program. He’s gotten off to an impressive start in his prep career and knows where wants to improve moving forward.
“This year, I’m just trying to get stronger and increase my football IQ,” he said. “I want to deepen my understanding of defensive coverages, and then I want to become a better runner as well. That’s a big thing in the offense, and my running ability needs to improve.
Who is Thaddeus Thatcher?
As promising as any quarterback prospect in the 2027 class, Thatcher’s commitment is a significant win for the Utes. Thaddeus is also the younger brother of Utah freshman linebacker Christian Thatcher, who signed with the Utes in December.
According to Rivals, Thatcher is considered a four-star prospect and ranks as the No. 12 quarterback and No. 147 overall player in the class.
This past season at Arbor View High School in Las Vegas, Thatcher led his squad to a 10-2 record with a loss in the state championship game against Bishop Gorman. The 6-foot-2, 175-pounder threw for 3,271 yards on 204-of-322 passing, which included 34 touchdowns to just 10 interceptions.
