SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Utah football program honored the life of running back Ty Jordan with tributes during the quarter breaks in their season opener.

Utah kicked off the 2021 season against Weber State on Thursday night and held the first tribute for Ty Jordan after the first quarter ended.

Before the start of the second quarter, Portal 22 became the “LLTJ” Portal 22 in honor of the late running back.

After the third quarter of play, the crowd at Rice-Eccles Stadium joined in a moment of loudness to honor Jordan.

Following the moment, Utah quarterback Charlie Brewer connected with receiver Solomon Enis for a 22-yard gain.

Head coach Kyle Whittingham said that fans will see many different ways that the team will honor Jordan this season.

Ty Jordan passed away on Christmas night in Denton, Texas near his hometown to an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Utah set up a memorial scholarship fund in Jordan’s name and recently handed the scholarship out to a member of the football team. The first recipient is cornerback Aaron Lowe who was a childhood friend of Jordan’s.

Lowe also changed his number from 2 to 22 during the offseason.

“Since the day I met you I knew you would be a good person,” Lowe said when he switched his number.. And it was because people always looked up to you. We never talked about going to college together. You wanted to stay closer to home because of your mom. But after you de-committed from Texas, we had that talk. I knew Utah could be a great opportunity for you to really be yourself.”
