SALT LAKE CITY – Kyle Whittingham’s Utah football program landed a big one in their 2026 recruiting efforts as four-star offensive tackle Kelvin Obot announced his commitment to the Utes!

Obot is one of the top offensive tackles in the class. Utah had to beat Michigan, Oregon, and Nebraska to land him. A consensus four-star prospect, Obot is actually considered the No. 9 overall player according to On3, which is in line with five-star status.

With his pledge, he becomes the 14th commit and the highest-rated prospect of Utah’s 2026 class, and potentially the highest ranked prospect in program history.

He joins fellow Utah commits running back LaMarcus Bell, edge Prestion Pitts, quarterback Michael Johnson, linebacker LaGary Mitchell, cornerback Major Hinchen, safety Carter Stewart, tight end Bear Fisher, receiver Perrion Williams, offensive lineman Rowdy Pearce, defensive lineman Javion Ramon, defensive back Aisa Galea’i, defensive back Dylan Waters, and tight end Josiah Jefferson.

Obot emerged as a promising offensive lineman as a sophomore at Fruitland High School. Utah was among the earliest to extend an offer to Obot, who now has an offer sheet that includes 25 programs.

After an initial three-star, .8700 rating, Obot’s evaluation continued to improve, and his ranking quickly hit four-star status. He is now considered a four-star prospect with a .9406 Composite Rating according to 247 Sports.

After visiting a number of schools, Obot eventually narrowed down his list of suitors to four schools: Michigan, Nebraska, Oregon, and Utah.

All four programs hosted Obot this month, with the Utes setting the bar on his first official visit. After evaluating all four schools, Obot landed on Utah as his best option, announcing his decision on Tuesday.

Obot was part of the first group of official visitors that included four-star ATH Salesi Moa, four-star DB Chance Collins, three-star OL Pulelei’ite Primus, three-star DB Jaxon Gates, three-star WR Kohen Brown, three-star WR Kaue Akana, three-star DL Lopeti Moala, three-star LB Adam Bywater, three-star DB Carter Stewart, and three-star DB Major Hinchen.

How does Kelvin Obot fit with Utah football?

Obot projects as an elite offensive line prospect, blending exceptional strength, athleticism, and fairly sound technique to play with seeming effortlessness—and a fierce edge when the whistle blows.

His most striking attribute is his punishing presence at the point of attack: he relishes contact, consistently overpowering opponents with violent hand strikes and relentless drive.

Athletically, Obot checks the boxes. His snap-explosion and functional quickness make him an immediate force against defensive linemen, and his lateral agility allows him to flow to the second level with ease. His state titles in the shot put and discus are evidence of the lower-body explosion he’s able to generate.

In pass protection, Obot has steadily built a polished game over his high school career. He moves efficiently around the pocket, avoiding unnecessary flair while locking down his assignments.

There will be an adjustment period to the speed and physicality of the college level, but Obot has all the natural qualities of an elite prospect. While he already carries significant mass, there’s room for added size and physical refinement.

Overall, Obot’s combination of strength, technique, and developing athleticism makes him one of the best offensive tackles in the class. He seems capable of coming in and making an impact early on in his career.
