SALT LAKE CITY – The Utes keep the momentum rolling on the recruiting trail, as Lake Oswego three-star running back LaMarcus Bell has committed to Kyle Whittingham’s Utah football program.

A former Oregon State commit, Bell backed off of his pledge, and the Utes emerged as a primary option in his recruitment.

As one of the program’s official visitors this past weekend, Utah was able to close the deal on the talented running back. He joins Mike Johnson, who committed earlier today.

As a junior, Bell rushed for 1,538 yards and 25 touchdowns on 173 carries. He averaged 139.8 yards per game and 8.9 yards per carry. Bell also competes in track, where he owns a personal best of 10.89 seconds in the 100-meter.

Bell was previously committed to Oregon State and holds offers from programs like Arizona, BYU, Cal, Illinois, and Washington State. He had officially visited Oregon State and Washington State, along with trips scheduled to Cal and BYU. According to 247 Sports, Bell is considered the No. 23 running back in the 2026 class and owns an 89 three-star rating.

The Utes welcomed their second group of official visitors this past weekend. Along with Bell, Utah hosted offensive lineman Collin Campbell, offensive lineman Moses Sparks, quarterback Michael Johnson, receiver Ace Theus, tight end Parker Ord, tight end Bear Fisher, and cornerback Toray Davis.

With Bell on board, he becomes Utah’s fifth commit in the class, fourth this month, third this week, and second today. He joins Texas linebacker/edge prospect Preston Pitts, Idaho linebacker LaGary Mitchell, California cornerback Major Hinchen, and Georgia quarterback Mike Johnson in the class.

How does LaMarcus Bell fit with Utah football?

At 5-foot-11 and 190 pounds, Bell brings a dynamic rushing skillset. He’s a runner with exceptional vision, lateral agility, and speed who consistently creates yards through elusiveness but still runs tough through contact.

Thanks to his athletic profile and size, Bell is fully capable of running both inside and outside tracks. He makes quick decisions around the line of scrimmage, which speaks to his vision and processing. That leads to his ability to bounce it outside or bend it to the backside with ease.

Bell is a great fit in Jason Beck’s new rushing attack, thanks to his ability to run inside and out. That will allow Beck to maximize the running game with different runs without dropoff.

Though he wasn’t super productive in the passing game, Bell still flashes promise. He can be a pretty reliable checkdown option, but has also made plays in more aggressive routes as well. Bell is also a very willing blocker, and though technical refinement will be needed, the effort and physicality he displays is most important.

All in all, Bell has the making of a pretty well-rounded back and is a fantastic addition to Utah’s class. He has the ability to contribute early on, while developing into more of a workhorse over the course of his career.
