SALT LAKE CITY—The Utah football program has rounded out its 2028 non-conference football schedule by adding a matchup against Nevada.

The Utes will face the Wolf Pack in Rice-Eccles Stadium on Sept. 9, 2028.

The game joins previously announced matchups against Utah Tech and Wisconsin.

The addition sets up a balanced three-game slate for Utah, offering a Power Four program, a regional matchup, and an in-state game.

  • Aug. 31 – Utah Tech
  • Sept. 9 – Nevada
  • Sept. 16 – at Wisconsin

The two programs last met nearly 80 years ago, Sept. 29, 1945, when Nevada defeated Utah, 33-14. Nevada has been a fairly competitive program in the Mountain West Conference in recent years. They also declined the opportunity to join fellow Mountain West programs in the new Pac-12 Conference.

Before the matchup against the Wolf Pack, the Utes will open the 2028 season hosting Utah Tech. The marquee non-conference game that season will be a showdown with Wisconsin in Camp Randall Stadium.

The Badgers are traditionally one of the tougher teams in the Big Ten. Utah’s schedule sets up nicely for Utah to build up to that contest.

Utah football’s updated game times for 2025 schedule

Utah also recently announced updated game times and TV programming for the 2025 schedule. The Utes open the season against a familiar foe, the UCLA Bruins, in Pasadena, CA., on August 30.

They will welcome Cal Poly to Rice-Eccles before traveling to Laramie, WY to take on the Cowboys for their final non-conference game. The kickoff times for those games have now been updated.

The season finale against Kansas was given an early morning slot on Friday.

Utah Is Ready for Revenue Sharing

One year ago, the NCAA agreed to the $2.75 billion settlement, which would usher in the Revenue Sharing era. This is what will allow institutions to pay their athletes up to $20.5 million, which would be generated from media rights money, ticket sales, bowl and championship distributions, and other revenue streams.

As for Utah, specifically, they’ve been among the schools that have been in prep mode— adjusting revenue-sharing budgets, and reworking department structures, and appear ready to distribute the maximum $20.5 million.

“We feel very good about where we’re at, we’ve been preparing for well over a year, we’ve had working groups internally looking at how we’re going to distribute revenue,” Harlan stated. “We’re certainly going to be at the max distribution at the University of Utah, thanks to our great donors, our great administrative support, so we’re excited about it.”
