Isaac Wilson’s Injury Vs Iowa State Likely To End His Season For Utah

SALT LAKE CITY – During the Iowa State game, Utah freshman quarterback Isaac Wilson suffered an injury late in the third quarter. He left the game and went back to the locker room, while Luke Bottari filled in for him.

“Proud of Luke (Bottari), probably will be our quarterback next week, as it’s looking,” head coach Kyle Whittingham said. “We probably won’t know for a day or two, but I hope Isaac’s okay. I don’t think it’s real serious, but we’ll reserve judgment until we get the final doctor results.”
Initial Indications On Isaac Wilson’s Injury
Unfortunately, Wilson was injured late in the third quarter. He escaped the pocket but was tackled from behind, where the defender made contact around the knee and twisted Wilson to the ground.

Wilson immediately reached for his knee, clearly in pain. He was helped to the medical tent before he exited the field for the locker room under his own power.
Obviously, it’s important to wait until Whittingham or Wilson clarifies the injury. However, according to separate sources, early indications are a knee sprain of some sort, which would put him on the shelf for weeks instead of months.
Luke Bottari Filling In
It was noteworthy how the offense immediately found success with Bottari in the game. For the second time this season, a backup quarterback to Wilson provided a spark.
Bottari’s biggest contribution came on a 91-yard drive. He had a 40-yard run, then followed that up with a 16-yard run down to the goal line before Utah punched it into the end zone with Micah Bernard.
Bottari finished 5-of-9 for 55 yards but started 3-of-4 for 36 yards. He completed three passes that converted first downs, while Wilson, despite being 8-of-8, only converted two first downs through the air.
What Happened To Cam Rising?
Rising has dealt with injury for much of his college football career. He missed the entirety of last season due to a knee injury.
This season, he injured his throwing hand in the team’s game against the Baylor Bears.
He then suffered a lower leg injury in his return against Arizona State that required surgery and ended his season for good.
