Utah Posts Dominant Performance For Second Straight Game

CORVALLIS, Ore. – For the second straight game, the Utah Utes dominated on both sides of the football, this week, it was in their 52-7 win over Oregon State in Corvallis.
It’s the largest margin of victory in a Pac-12 game for the Utes since joining the conference in 2011.
The first three quarters were all Utah as they jumped out to a 49-0 lead. Oregon State didn’t score until there was 56 seconds left in the fourth quarter.
It started with the Utes easily scoring on their first drive in just six plays and taking 3:07 off of the clock when quarterback Tyler Huntley found tight end Brant Kuithe for a 21-yard touchdown. When the Utes forced the Beavers to punt on their second possession, Utah running back Zack Moss broke out for a 91-yard touchdown run. It’s the third longest run in school history. The star running back only ran the ball five times and racked up 121 yards and two touchdowns.
Moss averaged 24.2 yards per carry and is now 55 yards away from passing Eddie Johnson as the all-time leader in career rushing yards in Utah football history. He now has six rushing touchdowns on the season and needs four more to pass Del Rodgers for the all-time leader in career rushing touchdowns.

On the third drive of the game for the Utes, Huntley threw his second touchdown of the game when he found wide receiver Samson Nacua for a 30-yard score. Later in the second quarter, Oregon State quarterback Jake Luton threw a pass that was deflected by Utah defensive end Bradlee Anae. The ball landed into the hands of redshirt sophomore linebacker Devin Lloyd, who returned his first career interception 64-yards into the end zone.
Before halftime, Moss ran in his second touchdown and would not see the field again for the rest of the game. He missed the second half against USC on September 20 and was out in the September 28 matchup against Washington State.

Utah’s Defense Dominates High Powered OSU Offense
Entering the game against Utah, Oregon State has been very successful this season running the football, racking up 203 yards per game on the ground, which was ranked 39th in the country and 4th in the Pac-12. The Utes held the Beavers to just 48 yards on 22 rush attempts. Sophomore running back Jermar Jefferson did not play against the Utes but Artavis Pierce was one of the top rushers in the conference before he faced Utah. He was held to 21 yards on 10 carries with 16 yards as his longest run of the game.
Both Huntley and Oregon State quarterback Jake Luton were the only starting quarterbacks to have not thrown an interception this season. When Luton’s deflected pass was intercepted by Lloyd and returned for a touchdown, Huntley now remains the only starter in the conference without a pick. He has thrown the ball 133 times without an interception.

Up Next
The Utes improved their record to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in Pac-12 play. They will return home on Saturday, October 19 and face No. 18 Arizona State at 4 p.m. on the Pac-12 Network. The Sun Devils have the same record as the Utes after their 38-34 win over Washington State.
