Utah Quarterback Tyler Huntley To Miss Rest Of Season, Could Possibly Play In Bowl Game

TEMPE, Ariz. – University of Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham said after the Utes 38-20 loss to Arizona State, that quarterback Tyler Huntley is out for the rest of the regular season.
Their is chance that Huntley could play in the Utes bowl game, depending on when that game is played.
Huntley left the game with 5:41 left in the third quarter as Utah trailed by four points, 21-17 at the time. He was tackled after throwing an incomplete pass and fell on his shoulder. The junior quarterback was carted off to the locker room and it is believed that he broke his collarbone.
Utes Turn To Jason Shelley
Replacing Huntley at quarterback is redshirt freshman Jason Shelley. The Little Elm, Texas native entered the Arizona State game with 40 yards passing and 56 yards on the ground. He finished with 59 yards through the air and one interception on 4-of-11 passing against the Sun Devils.
Shelley comes to Utah from Lone Star High School, where he was two-time All-District MVP and two-time honorable mention all-state. He was the No. 12 dual threat quarterback according to 247Sports and 27 by ESPN.
“Jason is our guy, we have confidence in him,” Whittingham said, when asked about Shelley taking over as the starting quarterback.
In 2015, Shelley finished with 2,975 passing yards and 24 touchdowns with just 4 interceptions. He had 180 carries for 629 yards and 20 touchdowns on the ground, during his senior season in high school.
Tyler Huntley’s Season
The recent play of Huntley was a big part of Utah’s four game winning streak, racking up 879 passing yards, including 7 touchdowns and two interceptions during that span. The Utes scored over 40 points in all of those games.
He struggled against the Sun Devils before the injury as he threw for 88 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.
During the 2018 season, Huntley finished with 1,788 yards passing, 12 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. He added 304 rushing yards and four touchdowns.
The Utes will look to rebound against Oregon at home on Saturday, November 10. Start time and broadcast information will be announced early in the week.
