SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah women’s basketball team will look to make more history when they face No. 1-seed Stanford in the Pac-12 title game.

Going into the Pac-12 Tournament, Utah women’s basketball had never advanced past the quarterfinals and now they will face Stanford in the title game in Las Vegas.

Stanford is the reigning Pac-12 and NCAA National Champions. The Cardinal is looking to repeat this season with a 27-3 record and a No. 2 ranking in the latest poll.

The defending champs are averaging 73.8 points per game and are winning their games by an average of 16.6 points.

The Utes have changed their offense this season and it’s more explosive and involves more three-pointers. That has led to a Pac-12-leading 77 points per game. They also lead the conference in three-pointers made (283, school-record), three-point percentage (35.3%), three-point attempts (801), assists (464), free throws made (446) and free throw attempts (569).

In the Pac-12 Tournament, Utah set a tourney record against Washington State in the quarterfinals for most points in a quarter with 29. After their win over Oregon on Friday night in the semifinals, Utah made history by winning multiple Pac-12 Tournament games for the first time in program history.

The Utes lost both games against Stanford this season. They fell to the Cardinal at home, 83-73 in a hard fought game on January 16. Then they lost in Palo Alto, 91-64 on February 11.

Utah and Stanford will tip-off at 4 p.m. MT on Sunday, March 6 on ESPN2.
