SALT LAKE CITY— As Utah gears up for its first Big 12 Conference matchup — a nationally televised showdown with No. 17 Texas Tech at Rice-Eccles Stadium — the conference’s mandated injury report has become an interesting storyline.

The Big 12’s initial player availability report listed several Utes as out, but only that. Head coach Kyle Whittingham has historically been protective of injury information. On Tuesday, Whittingham provided clarity on how and from who the reporting would be generated.

“Our trainer, I’m not a doctor, I don’t make the decisions on who plays, who doesn’t, who’s doubtful, questionable, all the stuff,” Whittingham shared. “The trainer will handle that stuff, and I believe we have to one Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday in succession.”

Who is on Utah’s injury report against Texas Tech?

On Wednesday’s initial report, Utah had a handful of players categorized as out, but none listed as doubtful, questionable, or probable.

Out

  • S Rabbit Evans
  • WR Daidren Zipperer
  • S Josh Sovereign
  • OL Isaiah Garcia

Doubtful

  • NA

Questionable

  • NA

Probable

  • NA

Texas Tech, by contrast, came in with a noticeably longer report.

Out

  • CB Tarrion Grant
  • OL Cash Cleveland
  • OL Holton Hendrix

Doubtful

  • DL E’Maurion Banks
  • WR Roy Alexander
  • DL Amier Washington

Questionable

  • CB Maurion Horn
  • LB Charles Esters III
  • OL Hunter Zambrano

Probable

  • TE Terrance Carter Jr
  • OLB Romello Height
  • LB Ben Roberts
  • S Oliver Miles III
  • S Marcus Ramon-Edwards

With the stakes raised in conference play, Utah faces the challenge of balancing long-term health with the immediate pressure of a marquee game.

The matchup already carried weight — Utah’s Big 12 debut, FOX’s Big Noon Kickoff broadcasting live from campus, and the opportunity for quarterback Devon Dampier and the Utes to showcase themselves on a national stage.

Now, injuries add another layer of intrigue as Whittingham’s squad looks to manage personnel while trying to secure a statement win.
