Utes Easily Handle Washington State 88-70

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – A 15-0 run late in the first half gave Utah a dominating 88-70 win over Washington State.

The Utes had six players score in double figures with Timmy Allen leading the way with 15 points and 9 rebounds. Both Gach added 14 points, Charles Jones and Riley Battin scored 11 points apiece. Sedrick Barefield and Parker Van Dyke each dropped 10 points.

C.J. Elleby scored 21 points to lead Washington State while Isaiah Wade chipped in 12 points and 7 rebounds.

Dominating First Half For Utes

Utah had a decent start to the game, hitting 5 of their first 11 shots to lead 11-7 early in the first half.

Washington State tied the game at 11 before Parker Van Dyke nailed a three-pointer from the corner.

That triple led to a 17-4 run for the Utes, which included a rare dunk by Van Dyke. Utah’s held a 28-13 advantage with 6 minutes left in the half.

Both Gach had a three-pointer and a dunk to put Utah on a 5-0 run to inflate their advantage to 33-16 with 4 minutes left in the first half.

The Utes had a 44-24 lead at halftime.

Utes Coast To Win

Utah picked up where they left off to start the second half with a 10-2 run and their lead stretched to 54-28, just four minutes into the half.

The Utes were able to lead by 30 points with 14 minutes left in the game when Donnie Tillman scored his first bucket of the game.

Washington State attempted the massive comeback with a 10-2 run but the Utes answered with a layup by Timmy Allen and a three-pointer by Tillman.

The Utes were able to coast to an 18-point win.


Up Next

Utah improved to 8-8 overall and 2-2 in the Pac-12. They will have eight days off before they face Colorado at home in the Jon M. Huntsman Center. Tip-off is at 4 p.m. on ESPNU.

The Buffaloes are 10-5 overall and 1-2 in conference play. Each team picked up a win at home last season with Utah winning 64-54 in Salt Lake City and Colorado picking up a 67-55 victory in Boulder.
