OREM, Utah – The Utah Valley Wolverines were able to handle Western Colorado 82-59 despite a slow start, winning their 17th straight home game.

“Seventeen wins in a row is amazing,” said Utah Valley head coach Mark Pope. “We’ve got to celebrate 17 because number 18 is going to be really hard.”

Three Wolverines scored in double figures, led by Jake Toolson with 19 points. Conner Toolson added 18 points and Connor MacDougall chipped in 14 points off the bench. T.J. Washington nearly had a triple-double with 9 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists.

Utah Valley shot 47 percent from the field and just 26 percent from downtown. They were able to out-rebound Western Colorado 54-33.

The Mountaineers were led by Quincy Harding with 12 points as the only player for Western Colorado to score in double figures. They shot just 30 percent from the field and hit 9-of-25 from the three-point line.

Western Colorado started out the game with a 13-6 run which grew to 16-8 and finished at 18-11 before the Wolverines stormed back to outscore the Mountaineers 35-17 to take a 46-35 halftime lead.

“I was proud of our guys. They stayed locked in and guard the motion as well as they could and they did a pretty decent job,” coach Pope said after the game.

From that point, it was all Utah Valley as they scored 36 points while holding Western Colorado to 24 points to pick up their fifth win of the season.

The Wolverines improved to 5-3 on the season and will face Denver on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the UCCU Center. The game will begin at 7 p.m. and will broadcast on the WAC Digital Network.
