Four Weber State Track Athletes To Compete In USA Olympic Trials

OGDEN, Utah – Two current and two former Weber State track athletes will compete at the United States Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon this month.

Those individuals are hoping to continue to chase their dream of qualifying and competing in the upcoming Tokyo Summer Games. The four individuals include current Weber State track stars Summer Allen and Kate Sorensen, along with alums Tawnie Moore and Jordan Cross.

The USA Olympic Trials will take place from June 18-27 at Hayward Field in Eugene. Coverage will be broadcast on KSL TV and NBC Sports Network.

Allen will compete in the women’s 3,000 meters steeplechase with the first round beginning on Sunday, June 20 at 7:35 p.m. MT. She had a record-setting season for the Wildcats this past year, finishing seventh overall at the NCAA Cross Country Championships in March, which is the highest ranking in school history.

The Orem, Utah native won the Big Sky Championship in the steeplechase during the outdoor track season. She earned All-America honors with an eighth place finish at the NCAA Championships last weekend in Eugene.

Sorensen is heading back to Eugene, Oregon and will compete in the 400 meter hurdles at the Olympic Trials. First round coverage will be on Friday, June 25 at 4:35 p.m. MT. She recently competed in the NCAA Championships. The Gunnison, Utah native qualified for the NCAA Championships for the second straight season and won the Big Sky title in the 100 meter and 400 meter hurdles at the Big Sky Championships in Ogden in May.

Moore will compete in the 100 meter hurdles with the first round getting underway on Saturday, June 19 at 6:04 p.m. MT. She finished her career at Weber State in 2019, while earning All-America honors in the event at the 2019 NCAA Championships. Moore is a four-time Big Sky Champion and holds school and conference records in the 100 meter hurdles. The Marriott-Slaterville, Utah native attended Fremont High School.

Cross will compete in the men’s 3,000 meter steeplechase, which will begin first round coverage on Monday, June 21 at 5:29 p.m. MT. He qualified for the Olympic Trials with a time of 8:30.79. Cross ended his collegiate career in 2018 where he won the Big Sky championship in the steeplechase in 2018, while competing in the NCAA Championships. The Ogden High School star had multiple all-conference honors in track and cross country.
