Weber State Advances To FCS Quarterfinals With Win Over Kennesaw State

OGDEN, Utah – The third ranked Weber State Wildcats needed some big plays from their defense to get past Kennesaw State 26-20 in the second round of the FCS Playoffs.
The Wildcats’ offense scored just two touchdowns, but was able to get a fumble recovery for a touchdown by defensive end Adam Rodriguez.
The opening quarter saw both teams connecting on a field goal before the Owls scored a touchdown early in the second quarter.

Weber State answered with a 21-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jake Constatine to Devon Cooley, but failed the two-point conversion attempt. Kennesaw State ran in another touchdown using their triple option offense to take a 17-9 lead towards the end of the first half. Wildcats kicker Trey Tuttle nailed a field goal before halftime to trim the deficit to five points at the break.
The Wildcats scored two unanswered touchdowns in the third quarter with Rodriguez’s scoop and score, along with a two-yard touchdown run by Josh Davis. Kennesaw State scored a field goal in the fourth quarter to cut Weber’s lead to 26-20.
Constatine finished with 234 yards, one touchdown and one interception, completing 19 of his 31 pass attempts. Davis picked up just 36 yards on 11 carries. Cooley hauled in 7 receptions for 114 yards and one score, while David Ames recorded 6 catches for 105 yards.
The Wildcats will host the Montana Grizzlies at Stewart Stadium on either December 13 or 14. Montana beat Weber State in their first meeting this season, 35-16 in Missoula on November 16.
