Weber State Drops First Big Sky Game With Home Loss To Idaho State

SALT LAKE CITY – The Weber State men’s basketball program suffered its first defeat in Big Sky Conference play this season with a home loss to the Idaho State Bengals.
The Wildcats hosted the Bengals at Dee Events Center in Ogden on Saturday, January 7.
Weber State lost to Idaho State, 67-57.

The loss snapped a two-game winning streak by the Wildcats and handed Weber State its first defeat since December 22, 2022.
Unfortunately for the Wildcats, Saturday night’s game was a tale of two halves. After a close first 10 minutes of action to start the game, Weber State took control of things to close the first half. The Wildcats built a multi-possession lead and took a 32-25 advantage on the scoreboard into the locker room at the break. After halftime, the Wildcats maintained their lead for a few minutes before the Bengals battled back. Midway through the final 20 minutes of game time, Idaho State leaped Weber State on the scoreboard and held onto the lead until the final buzzer sounded.
The Wildcats finished the night shooting 35.6 percent overall and only 15.8 percent on three-pointers. Idaho State shot 43.8 percent from the field, including 22.2 percent from downtown.
Idaho State had more rebounds, assists, and few turnovers than Weber State.
Three Wildcats finished the game in double figures in scoring. Dillon Jones and Junior Ballard led the Wildcats with 13 points apiece. Jones and Ballard combined to shoot 6-12 overall and 2-5 on three-pointers. Ballard’s 13 points came off the bench. Steven Verplancken Jr. added 12 points.

The Bengals were led by Brayden Parker’s 15 points, three rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
With the loss, the Wildcats fell to a 7-9 record this season, including 2-1 in Big Sky Conference games.

Weber State’s next game is on the road against the Montana Grizzlies on Thursday, January 12 at 7 p.m. (MDT). The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
