Weber State’s Offense Struggles To Score In Loss To Nevada

RENO, Nev. – For the second straight matchup against an FBS opponent, the Weber State Wildcats fell just short of an upset, losing to Nevada 19-13.

In their season opener, the Wildcats lost to San Diego State 6-0.

The Wildcats defense held Nevada to just one touchdown and forced 3 turnovers, but the offense couldn’t get going. They recorded 63 yards passing and 74 yards rushing. Quarterback Kaden Jenks completed just six of his 21 pass attempts for 57 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Star running back Josh Davis was limited to just 25 yards on 9 attempts on the ground.

The only points scored in the opening quarter was a 36-yard field goal by Nevada to jump out to a 3-0 lead.

Early in the second quarter, Trey Tuttle nailed a 43-yard field goal to tie the game. Then the Wildcats took the lead when Jenks found wide receiver Rashid Shaheed for an 11-yard strike.

Nevada knocked in two field goals before halftime to trail 10-9 at the break. They took the lead with Kincaide ran in a touchdown from 33-yards out for a 16-10 advantage. Tuttle hit a 47-yard field goal in the final minute of the third quarter to put Weber State within three.

But, that would be the last time that the Wildcats would score and the Wolf Pack hit one more field goal in the fourth quarter to pick up the win.

Weber State dropped to 1-2 on the season. They will play their final non-conference game on Saturday, September 28 at 6 p.m. against Northern Illinois. The game can be seen on Pluto TV channel 535.
