OGDEN, Utah – The Weber State Wildcats fell to Northern Colorado after the Bears made a game-winning layup in the final seconds of play.

The Wildcats suffered the loss to the Bears at the Dee Events Center on Thursday, January 9.

After Jerrick Harding made a jumper to give the Wildcats a one-point led with 13 seconds left in the game, Northern Colorado’s Kai Edwards hit a go-ahead layup with four seconds to go that put the Bears on top for good.

Weber State drove three-quarters of the court and put up a last-second heave towards that hoop. The attempt was blocked and time expired.

Harding led the Wildcats with 21 points on 8-16 shooting including 3-8 from three-point range. The Weber State star added 2 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals in the loss.

Weber State’s Michal Kozak and Cody John combined for 25 points on 10-16 from the field.

Northern Colorado’s Jonah Radebaugh led the Bears with 19 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists. Radebaugh shot 8-24 on field goals and 3-7 from behind the arc.

Weber State shot the ball much better than the Bears going 43.6 percent on field goals compared to 36.2 percent by Northern Colorado. Both teams shot 32 percent from downtown.

The Wildcats were outrebounded 43-32 by the Bears including 14-4 on the offensive glass. The second-chance points by Northern Colorado proved to be a fatal difference.

Thursday’s loss was the second consecutive game dropped by the Wildcats and moved them to 5-10 on the season and 1-3 in the Big Sky Conference play.

Northern Colorado improved to 9-5 overall and is No. 2 in the Big Sky standings.

The Wildcats have a day off before heading on the road to play against Sacramento State. Weber State tips off against the Hornets on Saturday, January 11 at 8:05 p.m. (MDT).
