Weber State To Induct Five Standouts To Hall Of Fame

OGDEN, Utah – Weber State University announced five new inductees to its Athletics Hall of Fame.

The 2019 class will include Chelsea Bair, Sharlyn Maughan Geddes, Ruben Nembhard, Bill Schuffenhauer and Dan Sparks.

Chelsea Bair

Bair was a star on the Weber State volleyball team from 2005-09. She earned all-conference honors in all four years and was a first-team selection in her senior year. After her playing days in the purple were over, she enjoyed a professional career in Europe.

Sharlyn Maughan Geddes

Geddes was named an All-American for the Weber State cross country team three teams during her career that spanned from 1997-2000. She is the only woman in Weber State athletics history to earn All-American honors in cross country, indoor track as well as outdoor track in the same season.

Ruben Nembhard

Nembhard was not only the Wildcats’ first basketball Big Sky MVP, but also helped guide his team to one of the biggest upsets in NCAA Tournament history. After qualifying for the 1995 NCAA Tournament, the No. 14-seeded Wildcats upset No. 3 Michigan. Nembhard played all 40 minutes in the game and led his team with 27 points.

Bill Schuffenhauer

Schuffenhauer became the first athete in the history of the Big Sky Conference to win the decathlon in three straight years in 1992, 1993 and 1994. Later in his life, he would become an Olympic bobsledder and earned a silver medal in the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.

Dan Sparks

Sparks was a member of the first Weber State basketball team to compete in the NCAA Tournament in 1968. He was team MVP that season and went on to be drafted by the Cincinnati Royals in the 1968 NBA Draft and was also drafted in the ABA Draft by the Miami Floridians.

The class will be honored at the Weber State men’s basketball game against Montana State on Feb. 16th.
