Ashley Farquharson Secures Second-Ever U.S. Women’s Luge Medal

MILAN, Italy – Park City native Ashley Farquharson sat up and screamed with exhilaration after securing the second-ever women’s luge medal for the United States.
Farquharson held on to secure bronze, earning the first Olympic podium of her career.

Germany’s Julia Taubitz sailed to the gold by nearly a full second. Elina Bota won the first Latvian women’s luge medal, taking silver.
U.S. teammate Emily Fischnaller (3:33.035) finished 12th, followed by Summer Britcher (3:33.553) in 14th.

Farquharson began the day in fifth after two top ten earlier runs.
She clocked a pair of sub-53-second times to put herself in position for a medal.
Run 3
The Park City, Utah, native blazed through the course on her third attempt.
Farquharson catapulted herself into medal position after posting a time of 52.877 seconds.
She is .755 seconds behind Germany’s Julia Taubitz for the lead.
Run 4
A fast start in her final run set Farquharson up strong.
She sailed down the track without incident, securing the fastest time with two competitors left.

Farquharson was passed by the next two racers, giving her bronze.
