Explosive Third Period lifts Team USA Over Switzerland To Remain Perfect 3-0 In Milan

SALT LAKE CITY – Team USA improved to a perfect 3-0 in Milan on Monday afternoon as they bested Switzerland 5-0 in group play.
Despite a fairly competitive first two periods, the United States erupted in the third with three goals as they dominated the Swiss in front of their own net.
Three-goal third period fuels Team USA to victory over Switzerland
The United States faced their toughest challenge yet against the Swiss in Milan as they led by just two through 40 minutes of play.

Despite being outshot 37-17 heading into the third, Switzerland kept themselves in the game with an opportunistic approach in the offensive zone and stellar goaltending from Andrea Braendli.
However, Team USA then found their groove in the third as they suffocated Switzerland on the forecheck and scored three goals in close to the net.

In addition to scoring her first Olympic goal, defenseman Caroline Harvey led all skaters with three points (1G, 2A) alongside forward Joy Dunne (1G, 2A).
Notably, goaltender Gwyneth Philips was spectacular between the pipes as she made several jaw-dropping glove saves throughout the contest and led the Americans to their second straight shutout.
Who is USA captain Hilary Knight?
A native of Sun Valley, Idaho, Knight began playing hockey at the age of five when her family moved to Lake Forest, Illionis.
After playing college at the University of Wisconsin where she won two National Championships, Knight became the face of women’s hockey in the United States as she captured 10 World Championship gold medals and four Olympic medals.
When she’s not playing international hockey, Knight is the captain for the Seattle Torrent of the PWHL.
Notably, Knight trains part time in Utah with her partner and Team USA speed skater Brittany Bowe.
