Park City’s Ashley Farquharson Impresses Despite Geisenberger Victory, Again

Natalie Geisenberger is the first three-time Olympic champion in the women’s luge while local Park City native Ashley Farquharson concludes her debut Olympic Games in 12th.
Shortly before Geisenberger found another gear, Farquharson stood alone atop the leaderboard having flown down the luge track in blistering time.
The German great won the gold medal Tuesday at the Beijing Games, her third consecutive title. Germany’s Anna Berreiter was second and Tatiana Ivanova of the Russian Olympic Committee was third.

Berreiter was a half-second back of Geisenberger. Ivanova was a full second back. In luge, those time gaps are massive.

That speaks to how dominant Geisenberger was. No woman in luge history has more Olympic golds, or world championship golds, or World Cup race victories than Geisenberger.
The 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics
Just a year after Japan’s summer Olympics, the Games are back for a winter show in Beijing, China. The unusually short gap between Games is due to the ongoing Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
