Battered Chris Froome Keeps On Racing At Tour De France

PERROS-GUIREC, France (AP) — Battered and bruised, Chris Froome will keep racing at the Tour de France.

After being caught in a high-speed crash during the opening stage, the four-time champion said he will be on the starting line of Sunday’s Stage 2 between Perros-Guirec and Mur-De-Bretagne in the western Brittany region.
The four-time champion was in a massive high-speed crash about 10 kilometers from he finish of Saturday’s opening stage in Landerneau.
Froome missed the last two Tours after a bad 2019 crash.

He finished Stage 1 lagging more than 14 minutes behind stage winner Julian Alaphilippe and underwent scans.
It was unclear whether he would be able to keep on racing.

Stage 1 Crash
Stage 1 of the race took place on Saturday, June 26 in Brest, France. It’s the 108th edition of the Tour de France.
During the beginning day of the race, a fan stood alongside the route and held a sign.
The sign struck Tony Martin, who was riding past. Martin tumbled to the ground, which caused a huge pile up of bikes and fellow riders.

Froome underwent scans that did not reveal any fractures.
France’s Alaphilippe won the opening stage of the race. In honor of the Stage 1 victory, Alaphilippe will wear a yellow jersey during Stage 2.
The race will take place over a variety or routes throughout France until the final stage on Sunday, July 18.
