Former Ute Andy Phillips Training For Boxing Match Against Former BYU QB Riley Nelson

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – From the football field to the boxing ring. Former Utah All-American kicker Andy Phillips is training for a exhibition boxing match with former BYU quarterback Riley Nelson.
The match will benefit Athlete Strong and will take place at FitCon on April 13.
It’s the first time that either athlete has taken to the sport of boxing. They will face off in a match that will consist of three rounds that are one minute long.
“Once you start training, one minute is an eternity in the ring,” Phillips said.
The former Ute feels that his advantage in the bout with Nelson will be with his footwork. Just like kicking a football, his footwork is very important.
Phillips has exchanged words with Nelson and lets him know that he is coming for him. The Utah alumni feels that he owes Nelson some revenge after beating Phillips and former Utah punter Tom Hackett in a golf match in 2018.
All that Phillips wants to do is represent the Utes well and beat BYU in another sport, but his message to Nelson is simple.
“Get your boxing game ready,” he said.

Phillips and Nelson are not the only former athletes that will square off in the ring, former Utah linebacker Boo Anderson will face former BYU linebacker Brian Kehl as well as former Utah wide receiver Devonte Christopher will take on former BYU linebacker Skye Povey.
