SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Racing fans in the Salt Lake City market had their eyes glued to their televisions on Saturday when the IndyCar Series returned.

The IndyCar series kicked off their 2020 season with the Genesy’s 300 at Texas Motor Speedway on Saturday night.

Scott Dixon took home the win after leading for most of the race.

Dixon, a five-time IndyCar champion, took the checkered flag at dusk Saturday for his fourth win at the 1 1/2-mile, high-banked oval, where drivers also practiced and qualified earlier in the day. The 39-year-old New Zealander raced to his 47th career victory and matched A.J. Foyt’s record of 18 seasons with a win.

It was the most-watched IndyCar race since 2016, excluding the famous Indy 500.

Indianapolis had the highest rating from the race that was shown on KSL 5 TV in Salt Lake City. Indianapolis had a 4.36 household rating. Next was Orlando and Daytona Beach with a 2.11 rating.

Coming in third place was Columbus, Ohio with a 2.07 household rating. Salt Lake City was fourth with a 1.81 rating. Behind SLC was Denver and West Palm Beach with 1.57 and Dalls-Fort Worth at 1.50 rounding out the top seven market ratings.

The next IndyCar race will be on July 4 at 10:15 a.m. MT with the GMR Grand Prix at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The race will be televised on KSL 5 TV.
