SALT LAKE CITY, Utah –  The 2019 University of Utah football season has sky-high expectations with the baseline being a return trip to the Pac-12 title game, but even more as the Utes have Rose Bowl aspirations.

One player that is expected to be a leader for Utah football is quarterback Tyler Huntley but for the Utes to achieve the goals they want to for next year they need even more from Huntley.

KSL Sports’ Alex Kirry gets things going by mentioning the clichéd quarterback position with Huntley, and most of it has to do with him not being healthy and perhaps not seeing peak Huntley yet.

“I think that Tyler Huntley is a guy that has under-performed and has been injured enough that lead to question marks around this guy,” Kirry said on KSL’s Unrivaled. “Have you seen the best version of Tyler Huntley so far or has he plateaued and does he have the ability to get there?”

Knowing if we have seen the best of Huntley is still up in the air. There are plays like this one where he evaded defenders and made a nice pass for nearly 30 yards against USC. These type of plays show off what Huntley is capable of doing.

What Can Huntley Do To Be Better?

On the other side of the coin, Huntley has less than stellar plays as was the case against Northern Illinois in 2018 and some wanted him benched. He was unable to move the ball and was just 12-of-20 for 126 yards in the first half and the Utes scored zero points through the first 30 minutes.

Consistency is the key for Huntley to take the next step.

“Tyler Huntley just makes the coaches nervous, I know the possibility of injuries and has he really made the adjustments to be a full-fledged throwing quarterback? Don’t throw the I am a dual-threat quarterback out there, they want a consistent thrower,” Kirry said.

If Huntley can be more consistent and remain on the filed then he can live up to being one of the best quarterbacks in the Pac-12 and possibly lead the Utes to its best season ever.

If he gets hurt or lacks consistency then the season could take a downturn and not live up to the high expectations this year.
